Hatchwell
Privacy policy
This policy explains what the Hatchwell mobile app ("Hatchwell", "the app") does with your information. Hatchwell is made and published by Theminono, an individual developer ("we", "us"). If anything here is unclear, email theminono.support@gmail.com.
The short version
- Your financial data (assets, liabilities, income, expenses, plans and projections) is stored only on your device. We have no server and never receive it.
- There are no accounts. You can use Hatchwell without signing in to anything.
- If you turn on backup, your data is saved to a hidden app folder in your own Google Drive. We can't see it.
- The app sends anonymous crash reports and checks for required updates using Google Firebase. These never include your financial data.
- We don't sell data, show ads or track you across apps.
1. Data stored on your device
Everything you enter into Hatchwell is kept in a local database on your phone or tablet. This includes:
- your nickname and base currency;
- your assets, liabilities, prices you enter and exchange rates the app has fetched;
- your cashflow: income, expenses, yearly funds and plans to buy;
- logged months, projections, big moments and assumptions;
- app settings, such as your monthly log reminder and your rank.
This data is not sent to us. We don't run a server for Hatchwell, so we have no copy of it and can't access, recover or delete it for you. On Android, the system's automatic app backup is turned off for Hatchwell. On iPhone, Apple may include app data in your own iCloud or computer device backups, which is managed by Apple under your Apple settings.
2. Optional backup to Google Drive
Backup is off unless you turn it on (on the setup page or in Profile → Backup & restore). When you connect it:
- You sign in with your Google account through Google's own sign-in screen.
- Hatchwell asks only for access to its own hidden app data folder in your Google Drive (the
drive.appdatapermission), plus basic sign-in information so the app can show which Google account is connected. - The app saves one backup file there with the data listed in section 1. It is replaced each time a new backup is made. It counts against your Google Drive storage.
- The backup goes directly from your device to your Google Drive. It does not pass through any server of ours.
- Hatchwell cannot see, open or change any other files in your Google Drive, and you can't browse the hidden app folder from Drive yourself.
If you disconnect backup in the app, Hatchwell deletes the backup file from your Google Drive and signs out of Google in the app. Data on your device stays. You can also remove Hatchwell's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
3. How we use Google user data
Hatchwell uses Google user data only to provide backup and restore inside the app:
| Data | Why the app uses it |
|---|---|
| Your Google account email and name (basic sign-in info) | To show which Google account your backup is connected to. |
| Hatchwell's backup file in your Drive's hidden app folder | To save your backup, check whether a backup exists, restore it, and delete it when you disconnect. |
This data stays between your device and Google. We don't receive it, store it on any server, share it, sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI or machine learning models. No person reads it.
Hatchwell's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
4. Crash reports and update checks
Hatchwell uses two Google Firebase services, provided by Google LLC:
- Firebase Crashlytics sends a report when the app crashes, so we can fix bugs. A report includes the crash details (stack trace), device model, operating system version, app version and an anonymous installation identifier. It never includes your amounts, asset names, nickname or anything else you type into the app. Crash reports are always on.
- Firebase Remote Config checks the minimum supported app version, so the app can ask you to update if a critical fix is needed. It uses an anonymous Firebase installation identifier.
These identifiers are not linked to your name, email or Google account. Google processes this data under the Firebase privacy and security terms. Crashlytics keeps crash reports for a limited time (currently 90 days).
5. Exchange rates
If you hold assets in a foreign currency, Hatchwell downloads public exchange rates, at most about once a day, from Frankfurter and, as a fallback, the fawazahmed0 exchange API. These requests ask only for currency rates (for example, SGD to IDR). They contain no personal or financial data. Like any website you visit, these services can see your device's IP address when the request is made.
6. In-app purchases
Purchases in Hatchwell are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store under their own terms and privacy policies. We never receive your card or payment details. The app receives a purchase confirmation from the store so it can unlock what you bought, and keeps that status on your device.
7. What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent or trade any data.
- We don't show ads or use advertising identifiers.
- We don't use analytics to track how you use the app.
- We don't create user accounts or keep a user database.
The only third parties involved are the ones named above: Google (sign-in, Google Drive backup, Firebase), the exchange-rate services, and Google Play or the App Store for purchases. We may disclose crash report data if required by law.
8. Security
Your data is protected by your device's own security, so we recommend using a screen lock. Backups are protected by Google's security, including encryption in transit and at rest in Google Drive. Hatchwell does not add a separate backup password. Network requests made by the app use encrypted connections (HTTPS).
9. Your choices and rights
- Delete your data: uninstall the app, or use Reset app (Profile → How it works → Base currency). Reset wipes data on your device. A connected backup stays in your Google Drive until you disconnect it.
- Delete your backup: disconnect backup in Profile → Backup & restore, or remove Hatchwell's access in your Google account.
- Crash reports: they contain no personal details, but if you have questions about them, contact us.
Depending on where you live (for example, under Indonesia's Personal Data Protection Law or the EU GDPR), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to the processing of your personal data. Because your financial data is only on your device and in your own Google Drive, you control it directly. For anything else, email us and we'll reply within 30 days.
10. Children
Hatchwell is a personal finance app for adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
11. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page. For important changes, we'll also let you know in the app.
